Who is Tom Thiele?
The original inspirational "Tom Thiele" was a resident of Stockport, Thomas Edward Thiele, but recently there have been Tom Thiele's springing up across the world, in places as far reaching as Germany and Australia. So, really, to find one identity for Tom Thiele would be kind of pointless.

What is this all about? And who are The Appreciation Society?
To understand this project, it helps to know a bit of the history. The original beginnings of this project began in the slight unpredictability of Joseph O'Brien, who is a bit of a cult figure in his home town of Stockport. The phrase "Ah, shit, it's Tom Thiele, get down!" originates from that very utterance when the original Tom Thiele was approaching, and involved Joseph throwing himself onto the ground. Over time it became customary for such a practice to occur each time Tom Thiele was around, and it seemed inevitable that it would at some point cross into some form of media. On holiday, Joseph wrote a gangsta rap, and it's at this point that Christopher Fraser came in.

Having had a history of taking Joe's ideas and elaborating them into fuller projects, Christopher went about creating a music track for the rap to go to. For a long time, it existed just as a drum track, but eventually involved into a full developed piece, complete with guitar riffs, sawtooth waves and bass beats. Include Joe's vocals on top of all that, and you've got the rap Sex, Drugs and Tom Thiele, which you can download on this site off the Downloads section. The two needed a name to operate under for this particular project, and so the collective moniker of The Appreciation Society was formed.

Do you do live performances?
From time to time, yes - the last two performances were at the Conservative Club in Heaton Moor, and a trashed kitchen in Bredbury; it's almost certain that it'll be performed at the first venue again. If you're prepared to cover the expenses, we'll perform for you - drop us a line by clicking here.
